Easy Homemade Valentines for Toddlers

Holidays with kids are way more fun- and Valentine's Day is no exception!

We will be seeing both sets of grandparents on or before Valentine's Day this year so I knew it was the perfect time to start thinking of ideas for a cute Valentine's craft we can share with them!

I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do with Eden this year, but a quick trip to Dollar Tree confirmed it, they have so many cute seasonal items and I was able to pick up everything I needed for this craft for just a few dollars! Many of you may have all of these items at home already (that's a win!) so you don't need to spend a dime or make a trip to the store. Unless you've got a toddler who loves getting out and being social like mine. :)

Here's what you'll need:

-Construction paper

-Stamps (grabbed from Dollar Tree)

-Glue

-Heart shaped doilies (from Dollar Tree- see below for an alternative if you don't have this!)

-Tissue paper

-Marker or pen

The trip out was worth it for us because we were able to find these really cute Valentine's stamps:

Stamps are great for building hand strength and coordination. And it's a pretty low-mess activity we can do even when it's not the Valentine season. You just need some paper (I usually tape it down) and let her choose the stamps and where to stamp it.

I should mention Eden did this craft standing at her Vtech Play Desk, but another great option is to do it taped to a high chair, glass door, or fridge.

After she had added her own "stamp" to the Valentine (ha, get it?), I stepped in and glued down a doilie for her (an alternate to the doilie is cutting out a heart from construction paper or simply drawing a heart with a marker).

(I prefer to do crafts where once she gets going, she can be independent and my involvement is pretty minimal but with her only being 16 months, I thought I should be involved with the gluing.)

The other thing I contributed was cutting up the tissue paper. If your children are older and comfortable with scissors, they can cut it themselves or you could always just tear the pieces and avoid scissors altogether.

Again, I put down a small layer of glue and then Eden pressed the pieces down onto the heart.

It turned out SO adorable!!! We let it dry and then I wrote "I LOVE YOU TO PIECES" across the top.

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised how simple this activity was and how engaged Eden was in each step of the process! Now she's excited to see her grandparents and give them her special one-of-a-kind Valentines.

And there you have it- for just a few dollars (or less!) you have the cutest homemade Valentines and a sweet little activity to do with your love bugs this Valentine season!
